Opening
Statement

Tidal Conversations explores how artistic practices can become spaces of encounter between different places, histories and ways of understanding the world.

Bringing together artists, researchers, institutions and communities, the project considers cultural exchange not as a one-way transfer but as an ongoing process of listening, negotiation and shared production.

How can an artistic encounter create new ways of understanding between different cultural contexts?

Event Profile

The programme brings together artists and cultural practitioners working across different geographical contexts. It creates a platform for artistic exchange while connecting exhibition-making with research, conversation and public participation.

Why This Event Matters

The project provides an opportunity to connect artistic practices from Europe and Asia while creating new forms of dialogue between artists, curators, institutions and local audiences.

FUQIAO’s curatorial approach

Creating Connection, Enabling New Perspective

FUQIAO approaches Tidal Conversations as a space for sustained exchange rather than a conventional exhibition presentation.

The project connects artistic research with dialogue, production and mediation. Artists are invited to bring their individual practices into conversation with different geographical and cultural contexts, allowing new relationships and interpretations to emerge.

The curatorial framework remains open to multiple perspectives and encourages collaboration between artists, institutions, researchers and audiences.

Project Context / Opportunity

Increasing cultural exchange between Europe and Asia creates opportunities for artists and institutions to develop relationships beyond traditional exhibition formats.

Tidal Conversations responds to this opportunity by creating a framework where artistic research, public engagement and institutional collaboration can develop together.

Project Objectives

The project aims to:

• Connect artists and cultural practitioners across Europe and Asia.
• Develop new forms of intercultural dialogue.
• Create opportunities for artistic research and collaboration.
• Connect exhibition-making with public mediation.
• Encourage long-term relationships between artists and institutions.
• Explore new possibilities for future commissions, research and touring.

Event Central Curatorial Question

How can cultural and artistic encounters move beyond representation towards genuine exchange and shared production?

FUQIAO Role

Curator, Representative, Producer

FUQIAO Methodology

FUQIAO combines research, dialogue, production and mediation to develop projects that respond to specific cultural and geographical contexts.

For Tidal Conversations, FUQIAO facilitates connections between artists, curators, institutions and audiences. The project develops through conversations and research before moving into exhibition production and public engagement.

Strategic Connection

This approach allows the project to remain responsive to the needs and perspectives of its participants.

Intercultural Dimension
Target Audiences

The project creates a dialogue between European and Asian perspectives, recognising that cultural exchange involves differences in histories, languages, institutions and artistic practices.

Rather than presenting these differences as fixed categories, the project uses conversation and collaboration to explore how new shared perspectives can emerge.
